Shift, 2022

Hand building, cone 6 porcelain, Multi-fired

50cm x 55cm x 35cm

Shift, a two-piece porcelain installation, pays homage to the timeless tales of Chinese mythology. The celestial embodiment of the sun, represented by a three-legged raven, and the celestial embodiment of the moon, depicted as the jade toad, engage in an unending performance as they seamlessly exchange their celestial duties. This work reflects the cyclical nature of time and the familiar aspect of daily routine, as seen through the lens of mythology. The stark, unglazed porcelain surfaces evoke a divine quality, while the translucent material invites light to penetrate, illuminating the details of form and imbuing the pieces with a ethereal aura.
