"Survivalist" (2019)

Ceramic | 11H*10W*18L cm | Sculpture| 2019

Tardigrade is an amazing little creature found in 1773 by a German zoologist. They have been found everywhere in Earth's biosphere and able to survive in all types of extreme environments. I'm fascinated by their cuteness and their unbelievable survivability. Knowing that even though they have such high "magic resistance", they are still quite vulnerable to physical damage. I thought it would be great if they can wear some armors to cover that weakness. The first thing popped up to my mind is a armadillo. A water bear wear armadillo's armor will be the ultimate survivalist! That defines the base form of these sculptures.

While making them, I also wanted to test out whether they can be used as fragrance diffuser because ceramic's natural character would allow it to absorb and slowly release scent overtime. I tested out different exposure and texture of unglazed surface.
